The 8th edition of Legal Translation Commission, Working Committee and Taskforces meeting was held at the meeting hall of the office of Union Attorney General on Thursday. At the meeting, the chairperson of the Legal Translation Commission Dr. Thida Oo said that the Legal Translation Commission Law was promulgated as The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Law No. 25 in 2015 and the commission was formed in 2016.
The Legal Translation Commission Law was enacted to translate 81 existing laws among the laws in English into Myanmar as the country continues to apply the laws promulgated by India Parliament up to 1947 prior to the independence of Myanmar. The commission has translated and ratified 26 laws and published volume-8.
The Public Property Protection Act and The Court Fees Act approved in 7th meeting have been printed and arrangements are being made to publish as volume-8. To continue the law translation works of the commission without halting the momentum, the state administration council restructured the legal translation commission with Order (51/2021) on 2nd March comprised of the union attorney general as chairperson with 15 members of legal experts and professionals on the subject.
The translation of the legal translation commission is separate from the union attorney general office’s legal interpretation. Legal translation is the subject of very artfulness with extensive consideration. The Negotiable Instruments Act and The Land Customs Act will be ratified in this meeting and the discussions and suggestions are invited for the correct translation.
The members of legal translation commission, working committee and taskforces attended the meeting and the meeting will take place for two days, it’s learnt.
