







To ensure food security and sufficient cooking oil supply within the Hukawng Region, Tanai District in Kachin State, efforts are being made to expand the cultivation of oil-producing crops and enhance multiple cropping capabilities. On February 16, State Chief Minister U Khat Htein Nan, along with responsible officials, traveled by air to Tanai Township in Tanai District.
Initially, the Chief Minister, members of the State Government, and departmental officials inspected the construction site of a two-unit apartment, three-story staff housing project within the compound of the Tanai District General Administration Department in Kansara Ward, Tanai Township.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister inquired about and discussed the necessary requirements with the responsible officials from Manaw Shwe San Ein Company, which won the tender for the project. He emphasized the need to complete the construction within the specified fiscal year, adhering to standards and timelines. The officials also examined the progress of the new RCC staff housing construction.
Subsequently, the Chief Minister and party reviewed plans for expanding Tanai Township by designating approximately 1,000 acres of vacant land in Kansara and Swut Ngaing wards. They discussed land-related procedures, laws, regulations, and directives to expedite implementation.
The, then, visited the multi-purpose agricultural farm under the Tanai Regional Operations Command in Kansara Ward. They toured the farm, distributed animal feed and veterinary medicines, and coordinated with relevant officials to provide necessary livestock and agricultural technologies, including high-quality seeds.
Similarly, on the morning of February 17, the Chief Minister, along with State Ministers and officials, held a meeting with district and township-level departmental officials, community leaders, local farmers, ethnic literature and cultural associations, and social welfare groups at the Hukawng Hall in Tanai Township. The Chief Minister encouraged open discussions on local needs and urged collaborative efforts to address them.
The District Administrative Body Chairman reported on ongoing activities, and the Township Administration Body Chairman outlined development needs for the township. Local attendees presented their requirements, and the Chief Minister coordinated with State Ministers and officials to address the needs.
The Chief Minister also announced the allocation of funds from the National Economic Promotion Fund: 11.8 million kyats for purchasing a rice dryer, upgrading a 20-ton rice mill, and buying oil presses; 2 million kyats (500,000 kyats per group) for local ethnic literature and cultural associations (Jinghpaw, Lisu, Shan, and Naga); and 3.6 million kyats as incentives for 36 high school teachers striving to improve Grade-12 pass rates. He urged collective efforts to achieve food and cooking oil sufficiency in the region.
After that, the Chief Minister and party visited No. 1 Basic Education High School in Tanai Township, where Grade-12 students are being trained to improve their exam performance. They warmly greeted the teachers and students, discussed the state's progress in improving pass rates, and outlined ongoing efforts to enhance educational outcomes.
