The Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, along with the Council Secretary General Ye Win Oo, and other members, visited the Wunna Theiddhi Sports Complex in Nay Pyi Taw in the evening on April 7.
The complex, which was completed and opened in 2013, sustained damages to its sports buildings due to the recent earthquake. The officials inspected the damages and assessed the situation. First, the Prime Minister and members arrived at the football field of the Wunna Theiddhi Sports Complex, which was completed on January 31, 2013.
They inspected the damages caused by the earthquake, which affected the football field, the running track, the grandstands, and the entrances. Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Jeng Phang Naw Taung, and other responsible officials provided an explanation of the damages. Following the briefing, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of systematically inspecting and repairing the sports buildings and fields that were damaged by the earthquake.
He pointed out that since many athletes and spectators would attend events at the complex, the strength and durability of the infrastructure should be prioritized. He also instructed that the 400-meter running track and seating areas in the grandstands be repaired systematically.
After that, the Prime Minister and party visited the Wunna Theikdi Sports Hall (A) and (B), completed in May 2013, as well as the Wunna Theikdi Swimming Pool, which was completed on May 30, 2013. They inspected the damages and were briefed by the responsible officials on the extent of the destruction. In response to the report, the Prime Minister stated that although the damages to the sports halls were relatively minor, as indoor games venues, they should be thoroughly inspected by technical experts to ensure structural integrity.
He also stressed that repairs and maintenance work should prioritize the strength and safety of the buildings and be conducted systematically. The Prime Minister further instructed that all necessary repairs be carried out in an orderly and safe manner, with a focus on the durability and security of the infrastructure, while addressing any other requirements as needed.
