Just as a country needs stability and peace to develop, its citizens also need to be rich in knowledge and skills, said Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development Dr. Charlie Than.

He made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the 14th intake of the One-Year Industrial Skills Course at No. 5 Industrial Training School (Magway) on May 4th. He continued that the improvement of vocational education plays a crucial role in enhancing the living standards of the people.

He noted that arrangements have already been made to conduct short-term vocational training courses in regions and states where there is demand. Although Myanmar is a country with good geographical conditions and abundant natural resources, human resource capacity is more important than natural resources for national development.

Natural resources will eventually diminish and be exhausted with increased extraction and consumption, but human resources cannot be exhausted by extraction and use; rather, they can generate great benefits in proportion to how they are utilized. At the same ceremony, the Chief Minister of Magway Region commented that countries where vocational education is valued equally with university education and made acceptable to the public are seen to be the most advanced and most developed. No. 5 Industrial Training School (Magway) was established in 2011 with the assistance of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) of the Republic of Korea.

To date, it has produced a total of 1,979 trainees. For this 14th intake, a total of 154 trainees including 125 male and 31 female will receive training. It is also reported that the Union Minister and the Magway Region Chief Minister met with teachers at the school hall; with MSME agency members, local industrial zone committee members and staff members at the office of the Magway Region Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection. During these meetings, they further explained the directives of the President and provided guidance on addressing necessary requirements.
