The Chin State Chief Minister Dr. Wong Hsun Htan attended and delivered an opening speech at a ceremony of handing over a set of four small-scale machines as part of a pilot project to three basic cooperative societies by the Agriculture Department, aimed at promoting value-added yam production held in the meeting hall of the Chin State General Administration Department at Chin State Government Office in Hakha Township on March 11.
First, Chief Minister Dr. Wong Hsun Htan stated that Chin State has approximately 12,000 acres of yam cultivation. He noted that the dried slice of yan industry is being carried out on a small scale in Hakha, Tedim, Matupi, and Kanpetlet townships. Farmers in Hakha and Matupi townships produce around 50,000 viss of dried slice of yam annually, which are exported and sold to Mandalay via Pakokku. He highlighted that this observation led to the decision to lease a set of four small-scale yam processing machines, owned by the Agriculture Department, to three cooperative societies under a rental agreement to initiate value-added production. He expressed that if the venture proves successful, other townships and villages in Chin State could adopt this model, leading to increased income.
Following this, the Chief Minister handed over the rental agreement for the set of four small-scale machines, intended for value-added yam production as a pilot project, to the executives of the three basic cooperative societies. Representing the executives of these three societies, Dr. Haran Kil ဒေါက်တာဟရန်ကီးလ် delivered a speech of gratitude. After that, the Chief Minister observed a demonstration of the machinery to be used in the value-added yam production process.
