Due to the influence of Typhoon KAJIKI in the Tonkin Gulf, Zeya Thiri Township in Nay Pyi Taw experienced approximately 8.74 inches of rainfall.

This caused the Naraban Creek, which has a catchment area of 18 square miles, to overflow, leading to widespread flooding. On the morning of August 25, the old Yangon-Mandalay Road was submerged between mile post 255/4 and 255/6.

Similarly, the road was also under about six inches of water between mile post 223/5 and 223/6. Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation U Min Naung, along with Deputy Minister U Bo Bo Kyaw and other officials, conducted a field inspection of the flooded areas.

They examined the ongoing efforts to improve water flow, which include clearing the Naraban Creek Box Culvert at the Pinlaung Road crossing by the Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management and the Department of Development, diverting water from the Mapaik-Kei Creek to aid drainage near Thit Tat Village on the eastern side of the Yangon-Mandalay Road and removing temporary culverts and widening narrow water channels along the Mapaik-Kei drainage ditch with machinery.

They also inspected the drainage system along the Kyun Yaung-I Sauk-Paunglaung drainage, confirming that all floodgates were open. The Union Minister coordinated the necessary adjustments and management of the operations. Thanks to the preliminary drainage work carried out this year in Zeya Thiri Township, including the excavation of ditches starting from the Yangon-Mandalay Road and Pinlaung intersection, the flooding has been significantly less severe than in previous years. Additional preparations are being made to prevent any damage should there be more heavy rainfall.
