Energy Ministerial Conference: Myanmar delegation attends the conference in China

Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun attended the 3rd Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference held from 23rd to 24th October in Qingdao of Shandong Province in China.

In his opening speech on the 1st day of the conference, the Union Minister stressed that the Belt and Road Energy Partnership (BREP) which was established 5 years ago become the Energy Cooperation Platform developing interest of the BREP member countries and people.

He added that Myanmar is striving to achieve 100% electrification by 2030 and also actively participating in energy collaboration and innovation activities under Belt and Road Initiative. Under Low-Carbon Green Growth in Asia project, Myanmar produces electric power using renewable energy sources and also making collaborative efforts with the neighbour countries in order to build cross border power grids to ensure electricity sufficiency and effective utilization of energy sources within the region.

The Union Minister also assured the active participation of Myanmar in Belt and Road Green Energy Cooperation Action Plan (2024-2029).

In the evening, Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister met with Chairman of theĀ  National Energy Administration, Mr. Zhang Jianhua and officials. During the meeting, they discussed matters on China-Myanmar cooperation in electricity and energy sector and future work implementations.

On 2nd day of the conference, Union Minister U Nyan Tun gave an opening speech at the opening ceremony of Smart Energy Sub Forum. In his speech, the Union Minister said that Myanmar initiated the Nationally Determined Contribution _ NDC project in August, 2021 in accordance with the decision of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Paris Agreement.

As Myanmar has numerous opportunities to implement new energy projects using Green Growth Models and ESS, investments from affiliate organizations are welcomed.

He also outlined the collaborative efforts of Myanmar with BREP member countries and international organization to increase electric power generation using renewable energy sources and to reduce over 105 million tons carbon dioxide by 2030 as one of the purposes of NDC by generating electric power using low carbon energy sources.

After the forum, Myanmar delegation visited 800 KV DC Converter sub-station in Yunnan Province, Huadin Qingdao Gas Turbine Engineering Project and TELD EV Charging Network Center in Qingdao. Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister U Nyan Tun arrived back in Myanmar on the 26th.
