Under the supervision and guidance of the Tanintharyi Region Government, a simulated disaster drill was conducted on July 7 at No. (4) Basic Education High School in Dawei Township. The exercise aimed to ensure the most effective and rapid response for rescue operations in the event of a cyclone or other natural disasters within Dawei District. It also focused on preparing for assistance and emergency care operations, as well as pre-emptive preparations and evacuations.

The drill was a collaborative effort involving the Region Disaster Management Department, the Fire Services Department, the Red Cross, the Zabu Thiri Emergency Patient Transportation Team, social welfare organizations, teachers, and students.

Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, along with the Chief Justice of the Region High Court, region ministers, and departmental officials, attended and observed the mock drill, offering encouragement.

Within the school compound, the joint teams practiced various response actions included announcing the need to evacuate to a Multi-Purpose Shutter which is a cyclone-resistant building, during a simulated cyclone in the Bay of Bengal. They also practiced assisting in the evacuation of villagers, including the elderly, children, mothers with young children, and people with disabilities. Search and rescue operations were carried out, with Fire Services and Red Cross personnel quickly arriving and positioning fire trucks and patient transport vehicles. They swiftly prepared and used search and rescue equipment for the mock rescues. After the simulated cyclone, the search and rescue teams located and rapidly extracted individuals trapped or pinned down using their equipment. Emergency patient transport teams provided first aid and transported "patients" to the nearest hospital via rescue vehicles, and also practiced handing over "students" to their parents. All these activities were rehearsed to be completed quickly and efficiently within a short timeframe.

Following the drill, Chief Minister U Myat Ko emphasized the importance of such pre-disaster simulation exercises and expressed his gratitude to all participants in the cyclone disaster drill.
