







National Disaster Management Committee held its emergency work coordination meeting at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.
Committee Chairman State Administration Council Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win presided over the meeting and discussed ways to expedite relief efforts in earthquake affected areas.
Speaking at the occassion, Committee Chairman and Deputy Prime Minister stated that a powerful earthquake and aftershocks on March 28 affected Sagaing, Mandalay, and Magway regions, Shan State (Northeast), Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, and Bago Region, causing casualties and damaging roads, bridges, and buildings. High-rise buildings and weak structures, particularly in Sagaing and Mandalay regions, suffered significant damage.
Meanwhile, the SAC Chairman and Prime Minister is personally overseeing relief efforts and instructed necessary measures. Urgent support is required for displaced civil servants due to damage to staff housing.
The Deputy Prime Minister then instructed the relevant ministers to assess their needs and provide aid. Along with the arrival of international assistance, he emphasized the need to ensure its distribution to those in need. Efforts are also underway to restore communication, electricity and water supply swiftly.
Subsequently, Committee Vice Chairman (2) and Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win, along with committee members and officials reported on the earthquake damage, rescue operations, transportation routes, communication restoration, impact on staff housing, casualties, emergency relief, ministry-led support measures, budget allocation and ongoing recovery plans.
The Deputy Prime Minister and party later visited earthquake-hit Lewe Township, staff housing in Balatheikddhi Ward, Zabuthiri Township and Ottarathiri Private Hospital.
During the visit, they inspected relief and rescue operations while providing necessary measures. They then oversaw temporary patient wards, water supply and safety measures at 1,000-bed Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital and coordinated necessary arrangements.
