Coordination Meeting: UEC and Political Parties held Coordination Meeting

A coordination meeting of the Union Election Commission and the political parties was held at the meeting hall of UEC office, Nay Pyi Taw on Friday and the chairman of UEC U Thein Soe and members, officials from the commission office and responsible persons from 59 political parties attended the meeting.

In his remark at the meeting, the UEC chairman said that regarding the law amendment process discussed at the first meeting, the law and by-law amendment process relating to the voters being away from the constituency not less than 90 days during the election period is underway, it’s also arranged to collect the voters list by the township sub election commission based on the form-66 population list of the immigration and population department for those who are full 18 years of age and hold the national scrutiny card with countercheck of list from the general administration department. The political parties are invited to cooperate and give suggestions in the voter list collecting and voting process.

Next, the UEC chairman explained that the scrutinizing voters list which is the first program of five future programs set by the state administration council is being carried. Among 315 townships where the election was held, 306 townships have been scrutinized and just 9 townships left. The voter list scrutinizing process will be completed soon. The scrutinized townships list have been publishing in daily newspapers.

Then, the UEC chairman clarified the voters list irregularities in Yangon Region, Kayah State, Rakhine State, Mon State, voting frauds committed intentionally during the 2020 general election, forming levels of election commissions from the union level to the village and ward level with NLD hardcore on purpose to commit such voting frauds during the election, interferences of INGOs such as IDEA, IFES with funds and ideas etc. The UEC chairman sought the opinion and consideration of the responsible persons of the political parties whether it’s suitable to exercise the proportional representative (PR) system in the upcoming general election and pledged to hold the independent, free and fair election in line with the fifth of five future programs.

Then, the attendees from the political parties discussed to facilitate the rule of law and security issues by the commission, it’s greatly careful to be a system conformed to the country in the bid of changing the election system, the political party which broke the existing laws and committed election frauds to be taken legal action and the proportional representative (PR) system.

Upon the discussions, the chairman of Union Election Commission clarified necessaries and gave a speech of conclusion, it’s learnt.
