"Just as various countries are facing and addressing fuel oil challenges, in our country as well, thanks to the leadership of the government and the cooperation of relevant organizations and the public, fuel oil import and distribution processes have become stable, and prices have been able to be managed fairly," said Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Ko Ko Lwin at a coordination meeting on ensuring smooth distribution of fuel oil to public transport services and on the status of domestic fuel oil import, storage, distribution, and sales, held on the evening of May 4, at Office No. 6 of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.

The Union Minister continued that natural gas (CNG) has been sold at the unchanged price of 273 kyat and 25 cents per kilogram since 2007 to YBS buses and taxis, which are crucial for the public transport sector. Compared to international prices, this price is extremely reasonable and is the most favorable among ASEAN countries. Using CNG taxis significantly reduces fuel costs.

He urged that those using CNG taxis should cooperate to ensure the public can benefit from this subsidy provided by the state. He also noted that responsible officials need to supervise YBS buses to ensure they operate only on permitted routes to provide public transport services.

Furthermore, the Union Minister stated that once the installation of the Auto Tank Gauging system at port storage depots and GPS devices on fuel tanker vehicles are completed, the entire fuel oil import and distribution system will be able to be controlled through a digital system, which will significantly reduce the amount of fuel the state needs to purchase and import.

Afterwards, Nay Pyi Taw Council members, region/state ministers for electricity, energy, industry and transportation, the Yangon Region Private Transport Supervisory Committee (YRTC), the Yangon City Taxi Association (YCTA), responsible officials from YBS passenger bus line companies, the Coastal Vessel Owners Association, the Deep-Sea Fishing Vessel Owners Association, and the Inland Waterway Vessel Owners Association discussed and presented their operational status. Deputy Minister U Kyaw Naing Win provided supplementary clarifications on the status of fuel oil import, storage, distribution, and sales, and the Union Minister coordinated and addressed necessary matters based on the presentations, it’s reported.
