





Myanmar and Thailand held a bilateral meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday. The meeting was led by Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe and Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, who was on a working visit to Myanmar from April 21–22.
During the meeting, both sides discussed strengthening friendly relations and cooperation, especially during the current political transition in both countries. They also agreed to enhance cooperation in regional and international matters. The Union Ministers emphasized cooperation on border stability, rule of law, prevention of illegal trade and cross-border crimes, and environmental protection.
They also discussed restarting bilateral mechanisms such as the Joint Commission (JC) and Joint Trade Commission (JTC), and boosting investment, including in the energy sector. The Union Minister also thanked Thailand for supporting Myanmar’s political developments and peace process.
He also highlighted the importance of border stability for peace and development, and reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to continue its peace process based on the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). The Thai foreign minister welcomed Myanmar’s recent developments, including the formation of a new government and prisoner releases.
He also expressed support for Myanmar’s peace and reconciliation efforts and said Thailand is ready to provide assistance in agriculture, health, education, and small and medium enterprises. The Thai delegation later departed Nay Pyi Taw for Thailand in the evening.
