Basic foods in low price: Mon State CM observed the selling basic food items

Under the Mon State Government’s initiative, collaboration between the City Development Committee, the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Fisheries Department, rice millers’ associations, oil traders, and oil producers’ associations has made essential food items available at affordable prices. On the morning of December 3, Mon State Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein, the Chief Justice of the State High Court, state ministers, and officials visited Mawlamyaing University to observe and encourage vendors selling rice, cooking oil, meat, fish, eggs, and vegetables at reasonable prices.

During his visit, the Chief Minister urged local producers to ensure adequate production of essential food items and to sell them at the most reasonable prices for the benefit of the public. He then observed university faculty, staff, and their families, as well as dormitory students, shopping peacefully and happily. Similarly, the Chief Minister and party visited the Technological University (Mawlamyaing) to observe the sale of essential commodities at reduced prices.

Later, the Chief Minister instructed stakeholders to facilitate public access to affordable rice, oil, meat, fish, and other food items and worked to coordinate the necessary arrangements.

In a separate event, the Mon State Government organized a ceremony to commemorate the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, held at the State Hall in Mawlamyaing. The ceremony was attended by Mon State Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein, the Chief Justice of the State High Court, state ministers, departmental officials, and invited guests.

The Chief Minister, who also Chairman of the Mon State Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, delivered an opening speech. This was followed by the screening of a video message from the UN Secretary-General and a documentary showcasing actions taken to uphold the rights of persons with disabilities. Attendees, including the Chief Minister, watched and supported these presentations.

The ceremony also included a recognition segment for outstanding disabled athletes who had excelled in the Asian Games, SEA Games, and Asia-Pacific Sea Games. Mon State Chief Minister, along with the Chief Justice of the State High Court and state ministers, presented awards, cash prizes, and souvenirs to gold medalists from recent disability sports competitions.

Finally, the Chief Minister and officials enjoyed musical performances by persons with disabilities and presented commemorative gifts. They warmly interacted with attendees and toured exhibitions set up to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, showing their support for the cause.
