





A 32-member rescue team from Japan arrived in Yangon on Wednesday to assist in the ongoing rescue operations at the quake-hit areas in Myanmar.
The team brought together medicines, medical supplies and humanitarian assistance under the arrangement of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Team Leader, Hideyuki Yazama, said "We come to provide assistance in the ongoing rescue and relief operations. We will try as much as we can in the recovery efforts in the quake-hit areas. We will delegate our assistance based on the needs of the affected areas. "
Most of the team members are experts in disaster relief operations, especially in providing medical assistance.
Shogo Yoshitake, Charged Affaires Ad Interim, Embassy of Japan, said " All of the rescue team members are professional and some of them can speak Burmese. Rescue workers who arrived today will participate in providing medical assistance in quake-hit areas."
Following the severe earthquake that caused widespread damages in central Myanmar, the government called for international assistance in rescue and relief measures in quake-hit areas.
Rescue and relief operations are being conducted in the affected areas with the collaborative efforts of local organizations and international rescue teams.
