The Inter-basic Education School Drum and Bugle Corps Competition for the 2024-2025 academic year was inaugurated at the Thuwunna National Indoor Stadium 1 in Yangon Region on January 11th.
Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein took the salute from the drum and bugle corps contestant teams, before delivering an opening remark.
Organized by the Yangon Region Government, the annual Inter-basic Education School Drum and Bugle Corps Competition aims to enhance students' skills, promote sportsmanship, improve health and fitness and foster teamwork through cooperation.
Director, Yangon Region Education Office, Khin Than Oo said "I believe competitions like this really help students grow in many ways. They not only improve practical skills and teamwork but also build qualities like a positive mindset, discipline, and responsibility. It’s also a great way to learn how to work together to solve problems, while supporting what we learn in school."
The event features a season of exciting performances, where students from 20 basic education schools came together to showcase their drum and bugle corps ability and teamwork.
Contestant, B.E.H.S (1), North Dagon, Phue Myat Sandi Ko said "This is my first time competing in this kind of event and I’ve been practicing for about two months. It’s been a great experience so far. I’ve learned a lot from the senior teams, like Practicing High School and B.E.H.S (2) Latha—they’re really impressive with their drum and bugle corps performances and I’m trying my best to be as good as them. Our team isn’t really hoping for a prize, we’re mostly here to gain experience. I also want to thank the officials for organizing this competition. With so many young people today spending too much time on games and phones, I think events like this are a great way to get them involved in something positive."
The Chief Minister also donated over 32 million kyats to support the successful celebration of the competition. The event, featuring 20 contestant teams, will take place over two days, from January 11th to 12th.
