The United Nations issued a joint call to protect the world's most vulnerable communities from an exceptionally strong "super" El Niño cycle. The Secretary-General of World Meteorological Organization highlighted that El Niño could worsen malnutrition and triggering outbreaks of water and mosquito-borne diseases.

The current El Niño has broken early records for intensity and is projected to rank among the strongest since 1950, peaking between October and December and persisting into early 2027.
