Australian Federal Police officials warned that online extremism and AI-driven radicalization are accelerating threats to public figures. This warning followed a deliberate car-ramming attack on independent lawmaker Helen Haines in Wangaratta.

The suspect was charged on Tuesday with dangerous driving and intentionally causing serious injury, as well as the federal crime of harming a public official, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. It was learned that the man will appear in court in Wangaratta on Wednesday.
