Details have emerged of the Mecca Defence Pact signed by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Under the 16-article agreement, an armed attack on any one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all three, with mutual assistance to be provided to the country targeted.

Classified military information and documents cannot be shared with third countries, companies or individuals. The agreement will enter into force once all three countries complete their domestic approval procedures. The accession of new members will require the joint approval of all parties.

AK Party spokesperson Ömer Çelik addressed the agreement following a meeting of the party’s Central Decision and Executive Board, stressing that it is not an alternative to NATO.
