







Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development Dr. Charlie Than attended a workshop on the development of cotton-based industries and value chain cost analysis held to mark World Cotton Day 2026 on Wednesday.
He stated that it is now time to rebuild Myanmar’s cotton and related industries into a "Golden Value Chain." He highlighted that stakeholders must work together harmoniously across the entire chain. He further emphasized that the primary focus must be on actively building long-term understanding and trust among MSMEs to foster collaboration, and securely connecting and exporting standardized, high-quality products to both domestic and international markets.
Following this, the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation discussed that coordination and support would be provided if any difficulties arise in implementing the outcomes of the workshop, and assistance would also be given to ensure correct cultivation practices.Afterward, a video clip illustrating the origin of World Cotton Day and the theme of World Cotton Day 2026 was screened.
In the afternoon, participants conducted round-table group discussions, practical calculations, identification of costs and wastage by sector, group presentations of findings, and identification of key issues and data gaps. It is reported that this workshop will be held for two days, continuing through October 8.
