2026 Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Sports Competition commenced at Zeyathiri Tatmadaw Sports Ground in Nay Pyi Taw on October 2. The opening ceremony of the sports competition was attended by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Ye Win Oo and senior military officials.

After the ceremonial ribbon-cutting event, the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services took the salute of Flag troupe and the athletes. In his opening remarks, the General outlined the purpose of the competition stressing the development of nation’s sports sector and emergence of new generation outstanding athletes.

In order to contribute to the development of Myanmar’s sports sector, the Tatmadaw Physical Education and Sports Institute was established in 1997–1998. Since its establishment, the institute has achieved significant success, nurturing not only outstanding athletes representing the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air), but also national-level athletes who have brought honor to Myanmar in international sporting competitions.

Highlighting the golden era of Myanmar’s sports sector, the General underscored the significant records of Myanmar football, swimming, weightlifting, and boxing athletes in Asian level and Global Olympic Games. The General urged all the athletes to make exerted efforts showcasing sportsmanship during the competition to bring prestige to their respective commands and nation.

This was followed by Second Round Playoffs of the Command­er-in-Chief ’s Trophy Football Tournament,  where Yangon Region Command Team beat Commander in Chief (Army) Office Team with 2-0. 

The 2026 Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Sports Competition comprises 12 men’s and women’s sports categories, including football, sepak takraw, Myanmar martial arts, volleyball, track and field, judo, golf, taekwondo, and traditional chinlone. The competition is scheduled to take place through 16 October.
