Under the theme, ‘“First Aid in Migration Contexts,” the 24th World First Aid Day commemorative event was held at the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) Headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.
Deputy Minister for Health Professor Dr. Aye Tun attended the event and delivered a speech. He said the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) is mandated to expand first aid services nationwide and plays an important role as a first responder during emergencies.
He also called for closer cooperation between the Ministry of Health and MRCS, to make first aid and humanitarian services more accessible to migrants. He also urged Red Cross volunteers to maintain regular training and preparedness to provide effective humanitarian assistance, as reserve forces of the State.
MRCS’s President Professor Dr. Myo Nyunt, ICRC’s Head of Delegation in Myanmar Mr. Arnaud de Baecque and IFRC Acting Head of Delegation in Myanmar Dr. Sara Ellithy delivered remarks, followed by a video presentation on Red Cross activities.
The ceremony included awards presentation for the first aid skills competition, display of the World First Aid Day exhibition and a search and rescue demonstration.
The World First Aid Day has been observed annually on the second Saturday of September since 2000 across the 191 member countries of the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. MRCS has been organizing the World First Aid Day events since 2003, with its 24th observance in 2026.
