Myanmar Navy vessels, namely UMS Moattama, UMS Than Lwin and UMS Sin Phyu Shin arrived at Lumut Port, Malaysia on the morning of 28 September to repatriate 1,476 verified Myanmar nationals who had been detained in the Malaysian Immigration detention camps and faced difficulties following completion of their sentences due to the violation of the immigration regulations.
Following the systematic handover of the verified Myanmar nationals by the Myanmar Embassy and the Office of the Military, Naval and Air Attaché of Myanmar in Kuala Lumpur, the vessels carrying the returnees departed from Lumut Port, Malaysia on the evening of 29 September for Yangon.
Officials warmly welcomed the returning Myanmar nationals and provided them with accommodation, medical care, daily meals, clothing and personal items aboard the naval vessels. They were also provided with recreational activities, movies and group fitness exercises.
When the vessels entered Myanmar’s territorial waters on October 1, the returning nationals expressed their happiness and gratitude for being welcomed home after being away from the country for some time.
The vessels are expected to arrive in Yangon in the coming days. Government officials and family members will be waiting at the port to help reunite them with their families and arrange transportation to their respective hometowns. Further assistance will also be provided to help the returnees live safely and peacefully with their families in Myanmar.
