Chinese film 'Dear You' began screening for Yangon audience on August 21 at the Cineplex in Junction City. The film has gained popularity in overseas markets, with international box-office receipts surpassing 104 million yuan as of August 16.

It has already been screened in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan, Thailand, Viet Nam, Indonesia and the Philippines, with screenings also planned for North America, France, Spain and South Korea.

The film was shot predominantly in the Teochew dialect and features a largely non-professional cast. It premiered on the Chinese mainland in April before expanding into overseas markets across Southeast Asia.

Set against the historical culture of Qiaopi, letters, remittances and correspondence sent by Chinese migrants to relatives in their ancestral homes, the film explores the experience of migration and the enduring ties between overseas Chinese communities and their roots.

The film also highlights cooperation with local Chinese associations and federations, presenting Qiaopi records as part of a shared epistolary heritage that connects migrant communities across different countries. The Yangon screening drew a full house, with audiences responding strongly to the film's themes of family, solidarity, benevolence and resilience.
