Flood Mitigation Measures : Installation of barrier at the damaged Ngawun Dam

Efforts are underway to set up barrier at the damaged section of Ngawun Dam in Laymyethna Township of Ayeyawady Region. On Saturday, Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw, toegeher with Deputy Ministers for Constrution U Myo Myint and officials, visited the area to view the work progress.

They inspected the steel sheet piles and stand pipes installation and necessary arrangements at Ngawun Dam damaged area due to erosion caused by Ngawun River overflowing, instructed on timely completion of the task, systematic utilization of machines and equipment, safety measures, and coordinated necessities on difficulties encountered.

At present a total of 49 stand pipes have arrived at the site and 3 of them were already installed. To ensure the long-term resilience of the steel sheet piles and stand pipes, necessary arrangements are underway to stack sandbags against 400 mm x 400 mm H beam.
