Military Cooperation: Thailand- Myanmar High Level Committee Meeting

Thailand hosted the 9th Thailand- Myanmar High Level Committee Meeting in Bangkok on Thursday. Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Ye Win Oo led the Myanmar delegation, while Thailand side was led by Chief of Defence Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces General Ukris Boontanondha.

In his opening remarks, General Ukris said the meeting intended to strengthen friendship and deepen cooperation mechanism between the two armies, aiming to preserve peace and stability in border areas of the two countries. For sustainable people-to-people development and regional security with close understanding, trust and cooperation, the Thai General called for collaborative efforts between the two armed forces to overcome the regional challenges. 

He added that friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries could help enhance mutual understanding and lead to the future cooperation across a wider areas, promising security and prosperity of the people. General Ye Win Oo also said that the HLC meeting is held to boost cooperation between the two armed forces in implementing Myanmar-Thailand border security, adopting roadmaps, operation of Regional Border Committee (RBC) and Township Border Committee (TBC) and other regional challenges.

The General reiterated for enhancing cooperation between the two armed forces to strengthen mutual understanding and people-to-people relations. The meeting then clarified the meeting minutes of 38th RBC and Joint Secretary Meeting (JSM) and sought for approval. Subsequently, the agreements of the 9th Thailand- Myanmar High Level Committee Meeting were signed, followed by presenting the two sets of air pollution monitoring equipment.

Joint Secretary Meeting of the 9thThailand- Myanmar High Level Committee Meeting also took place in Bangkok from 16th to 19th August to discussed matters to conduct study tour, meetings between the two Armed forces along with the cooperation covering in a wide range of areas including agriculture, education and trainings, combat terrorist acts, trafficking, online crimes, cultural exchanges, humanitarian assistance, natural disaster prevention, maritime security and safety, prevention cross-border wild fire and water pollution. It is learned that Myanmar will host the 10th Myanmar-Thailand High Ranking Military Officials Meeting in 2027.
