"By organizing mutual study tours among the national races, cultural exchange programmes, ethnic song and dance performances, traditional attire showcases, and traditional friendship dinner events, the traditional cultures can be preserved, contributing to fostering friendship, unity, and peace among ethnic groups," said Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Than Maung during a meeting held Thursday morning at the Union Minister's Office meeting hall of the Ministry.
He made these remarks while meeting with representatives from Kayan, Kayin Phyu, and Pa-O ethnic literature and cultural associations within the Pyinmana District of Nay Pyi Taw. During the meeting, the Union Minister stated that the most crucial factor for national development is peace.
Only with peace can regional development works be further advanced, and national development is synonymous with the development of ethnic peoples. He emphasized that just as the State is striving for peace and the comprehensive socio-economic development of ethnic nationalities, all ethnic brothers and sisters must also unite and work together hand in hand.
He urged everyone to exert their utmost efforts, with a genuine Union spirit, to bring about a Union founded on a democratic federal system for the development of their communities. Subsequently, representatives from the Kayan, Kayin Phyu, and Pa-O ethnic literature and cultural associations in Nay Pyi Taw introduced themselves individually and presented regional needs by ethnic group.
The Union Minister coordinated and addressed their submissions and delivered the concluding speech. Afterwards, the representatives from the ethnic literature and cultural associations were hosted for lunch. They also toured the traditional cultural exhibition halls of the ethnic groups displayed at the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs, it’s reported.
