The education sector is a fundamentally crucial cornerstone for the development of a nation. Education enhances human resources and can drive progress across economic, social, technological, and political sectors, serving as a force capable of building the nation's future. Therefore, the government is making strenuous efforts, in cooperation with Tatmadaw personnel and relevant organizations, to ensure that the new generation which is the nation's future does not fall behind in education. This includes enabling them to fully access educational opportunities and reopening basic education schools for the upcoming school term.

However, the terrorist group masquerading as the NUG and its affiliated PDF terrorist groups are disrupting and destroying the advancement of the education sector using various methods. Driven by vile intentions to deprive the future generation of educational opportunities, create an uneducated class, and coerce support through fear, they attack non-military schools remotely with heavy weapons and drones, threaten and pressure students, teachers, and parents, kidnap and kill, burn and destroy educational buildings, plant and detonate landmines, and burn support materials, textbooks, and schoolbooks.

As part of these activities, on May 12, at around 11:45 AM, while teachers, administrators, and office staff were making preparations at the Basic Education High School (Branch) (Aung Zayya) in Indaw Town, Sagaing Region, such as enrolling students for the upcoming school term and ensuring classrooms and teaching aids were in order, PDF terrorist insurgents launched an attack using two FPV suicide drones from approximately 2,600 meters west of Indaw Town. The drones struck and exploded within the school compound, damaging classrooms. One primary school principal and two office staff members sustained minor shrapnel injuries and are receiving necessary medical care.

The deliberate attack by the PDF terrorist insurgents on educational buildings where students study peacefully, which are not military-related targets, constitutes a war crime under the Geneva Conventions and international law. Local residents are strongly condemning and criticizing these terrorist acts, and security forces are stepping up necessary area security operations, it’s reported.
