




The first day of the meeting of the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives participating in the Presidential Electoral College was held at 10:00 AM on March 30th in the Amyotha Hluttaw meeting hall of the Hluttaw building in Nay Pyi Taw.
At the meeting, the Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw, U Aung Lin Dwe, announced that the meeting of the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives was duly constituted and commenced. The attendance status was then confirmed and recorded with the approval of the Hluttaw.
Firstly, the elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives conducted the nomination and seconding of vice-presidential candidates, and submitted the nomination forms to the Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw.
During this process, the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives submitted Nomination Form (1) for vice-presidential candidates. Dr. Nan Ni Ni Aye from Kayin State Constituency (PR System) No. 1 was nominated by U Hla Thein from Bago Region Constituency (PR System) No. 2, and seconded by U Shar Ral from Kayah State Constituency (FPTP System) No. 1.
Subsequently, Dr. Manam Tu Jar from Kachin State Amyotha Hluttaw Constituency (PR System) No. 2 was nominated by U Than Aye (also known as U Tin Oo) from Taninthayi Region Constituency (PR System) No. 1, and seconded by U Saw Thwin from Magway Region Constituency (PR System) No. 1 and U Ye Htut Aung from Mon State Constituency (PR System) No. 1.
Following this, the Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw announced that the candidates nominated as vice-presidential candidates were Dr. Nan Ni Ni Aye from Karen State Constituency (Proportional Representation System) No. 1 and Dr. Manam Tu Jar from Kachin State Amyotha Hluttaw Constituency (Proportional Representation System) No. 2.
Afterwards, the Speaker of Amyotha Hluttaw announced that, as the scrutiny committee to verify whether the candidates meet the qualifications for the President must be composed of the Speakers and Deputy Speakers of both Hluttaws in the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, one Pyithu Hluttaw representative selected by the group of elected Pyithu Hluttaw representatives, one Amyotha Hluttaw representative selected by the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives, and one Defence Services Hluttaw representative selected by the group of Defence Services Hluttaw representatives, nomination forms were to be taken for the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives to propose a nominee to serve as a member of the scrutiny committee.
Next, the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives conducted the nomination and seconding of one elected Amyotha Hluttaw representative to serve on the scrutiny committee and submitted the nomination form to the Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw.
During this process, U Hla Thein from Bago Region Constituency (PR System) No. 2 was nominated by U Aung Tin Myint from Ayeyawady Region Constituency (PR System) No. 1, and seconded by U Ye Myint Tun from Bago Region Constituency (FPTP System) No. 4.
Afterwards, the Speaker announced that, since only one nominee was proposed, U Hla Thein from Bago Region Constituency (PR System) No. 2 was selected as a member of the committee to scrutinize the qualifications for the President.
Following this, the first day of the meeting of the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives was adjourned, and the second day of the meeting will be held on March 31st, it’s reported.
