Day Meal Offering: In remembrance of the Mandalay earthquake tragedy

The National Defence and Security Council held a day meal offering ceremony on Saturday morning to mark the first anniversary of the Mandalay earthquake tragedy, in remembrance of civilians who lost their lives.

The ceremony took place at Sasana Maha Beikmandawgyi in the Uppatasanti Pagoda compound in Nay Pyi Taw. The ceremony was graced by the Venerable Sayadaw of Pauk Myaing Monastery, who also serves as Ovadacariya Sayadaw of Uppatasanti Pagoda.

Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Phone Myat attended the event, along with other Union Ministers and concerned officials. The congregation first received the Five Precepts from the Presiding Patron of Thiri Mingalar Wel Gyi Pariyatti Monastery Ovadacariya Sayadaw of Uppatasanti Pagoda and listened to sermons delivered by members of the Sangha.

Union Ministers then offered offertories to senior monks led by the Pauk Myaing Monastery Sayadaw.  The sermon was then delivered by the Presiding Patron of Aung Si Thar Pariyatti Monastery, after which the congregation shared merits for the deceased.
