To ensure the smooth transportation and convenience of the public, Myanma Railways is upgrading railway lines, bridges and basic infrastructures under the guidance of the head of state. Starting from January 2026, railway earthing and bonding works on Bago-Mawlamyine rail section are being conducted using Automatic Leveling Lining & Tamping Machine.

Upon completion of the upgrades, train speeds are expected to reach up to 64 kilometers per hour, reducing travel time.  During the 2025–2026 fiscal year, a total of 13,489 track ballast units have been laid along the Bago–Mawlamyine section. An additional 5,279 units will be installed on the remaining sections, and once completed, trains will be able to operate at speeds of up to 75 kilometers per hour.
