International Day of Forests: Commemorative event held in Loikaw

A ceremony to mark the 2026 International Day of Forests was held in Loikaw Township on Friday, with the attendance of Kayah State Chief Minister U Sein Oo.

In his opening remarks, the Chief Minister underscored the purpose of the ceremony which is to raise awareness about the value of the forests and to encourage the public participation in forest preservation and long-term resilience.

Highlighting the essential role of the forests in ensuring sustainable and inclusive economies, the Chief Minister called on the constructive participation of departmental and relevant organizations in reforestation, natural resources and environmental conservation.

He also encouraged the public understanding of value of forests and their benefits in food security and ecosystem and active participation in conservation measures. Then, a video clip in commemoration of International Day of Forests was screened.

After a stage performance by “Forest and Environment” of the trainees from Nursing and Midwifery Institute, cash rewards were presented to the performance group. Afterwards, the Chief Minister and officials made a tour to displayed posters.
