The 14th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference is currently being held in Singapore from October 27 to 30, 2024, under the theme "Fostering Cooperation on Combating Financial Crimes." Myanmar's delegation, led by Union Minister and Union Attorney General Dr. Thida Oo, is attending the conference following an invitation from Singapore's Attorney General, H.E. Mr. Lucien Wong.

The conference began with opening remarks by Mr. Wong and China's Prosecutor General, H.E. Ying, representing the Supreme People's Procuratorate.

In her address, Dr. Thida Oo highlighted that over the past decade, the China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference has become a vital platform for international collaboration in the fight against financial crimes and information sharing among member states. She emphasized that fostering cooperation in this area is crucial, especially in view of the conference’s goal to enhance efforts against financial crimes among ASEAN and China. Myanmar, she added, has implemented Anti-Money Laundering Laws and regulations and established a Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Myanmar is also a signatory to the United Nations Conventions against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) since 2004 and against Corruption (UNCAC) since 2013, and is a member of the ASEAN Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (AMLAT), which supports cooperation in extradition, evidence exchange, and criminal prosecution across borders.

The China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Joint Declaration was signed by the prosecutors-general of China and ASEAN member countries, affirming their commitment to increased cooperation in combating cross-border financial crimes. This declaration is expected to strengthen the bonds between ASEAN countries, including Myanmar, and further Myanmar's friendly relations with China.
