Natural Environmental Conservation: SG attends monsoon tree planting ceremony 2023

Aiming to conserve natural environment, to have shady and to provide the State economy on the other hand, monsoon tree planting ceremonies have been held by the office of Commander-In-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) and respective military commands since 2011.

The 1st monsoon tree planting ceremony 2023 of families of the Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) was held near Yezin Dam in Nay Pyi Taw Zeyathiri Township on Thursday.

On the occasion, Chairman of the State Administration Council, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing planted the teak tree.

The ceremony was also attended by the SAC Chairman’s wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Vice-Chairman of the SAC Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife, Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye, and senior military officers, Union level personnel, the Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, training officers of the National Defence College, officers, other ranks and families members.

In his address, the Senior General said that Tatmadaw has been holding monsoon tree plantation ceremonies annually since 2011 and now it has been over a decade.

The monsoon tree plantation ceremonies are held as a national duty for the sustainable development of the forest resources, conservation of natural environment and ecosystems.

The families of the office of Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) have been conducting the monsoon tree planting ceremonies since 2011 around Yezin dam. It is found that a total of 180,000 trees could be planted and over 100,000 plants are thriving.

Tatmadaw planted over 21 million saplings from 2011 to 2022 and of them, more than 1.5 million (over 70 percent) are thriving.  The forest coverage areas of the nation were 46.96% in 2010 and 42.92% in 2015. So, it is learnt that the forest coverage areas have been decreasing gradually.

In 2020, there was only 42.19% and the climate change is faced due to the forest depletion and the natural disasters as well as losses and damages are also faced in successive eras.

The Senior General also added that greening and beautifying tasks are being undertaken for Nay Pyi Taw as a green city since establishing to till now.

Only when greening activities are implemented from a city to the nationwide, the country will be harmonize with natural environment and can face unwanted natural disasters.

Next, the Senior General and wife grew the precious teak sapling. After that, the Vice-Senior General and wife, the Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air), senior military officers, officers, other ranks and families planted seedlings at the designated places.

The Senior General and wife and party then viewed around tree plantings of officers, other ranks and families. In the ceremony, a total of 3,528 saplings including 1,764 teaks, 882 Manjanshaand 882 gum-kino trees were grown.

The families of the Commander-in-Chief office have held tree planting ceremonies for 36 times from 2011 to 2023 and planted 189,189 trees including precious teaks, perennial crops and shady trees. Likewise, the respective military commands held monsoon tree planting ceremonies and Tatmadaw planted a total of 210,398 saplings on 8th June.
