








A donation ceremony for rehabilitation of cyclone hit areas was held at Rakhine State Government Office on Sunday.
It was attended by Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, together with Union Ministers Dr Thet Thet Khaing and U Aung Thaw, and Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin. Myanmar Hotelier Association (Rakhine Zone) donated 40 million kyats for the implementation of rehabilitation works in the areas affected by cyclone Mocha.
The Union Minister and party later arrived at Yay Chan Pyin Jetty and inspected the loading of 14 tractors to the Landing Crafts, to be transported to Rathaedaung Township.
The tractors were provided by the Mechanized Farming Department under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation for development projects in Rakhine State.
In the afternoon, a coordination meeting for rehabilitation process was held at the State Government Office. Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung gave an opening speech, and heard reports on work progress and future plans.
He also instructed for systematic implementation of relief and rehabilitation works, and replanting of mangrove forests and coconut tress that can resist the natural disaster.
In the evening, the Union Minister and party inspected the construction of temporary Bailey Bridge on the road to Hman Si Village. The 20 ft long concrete bridge was damaged by the cyclone Mocha. For the smooth transportation of local residents, the Rakhine State Rural Road Development Department under the Ministry of Coopertives and Rural Development started the construction of temporary Bailey Bridge on 30th May.
At night, artistes from movie, theatrical drama and music fields entertained the local residents at Sittwe Beach for the relaxation of the people affected by the cyclone.
In the aftermath of cycone Mocha from May 16th to 3rd June, over 30,000 patients were provided treatment at the People’s Hospitals and over 50,000 at the Rural Health Departments.
Moreover, the Special Medical Teams provided treatment to over 5,000 patients during their field operation in the townships and villages. Likewise, the repairing works of 4 embankments that prevent the inflow of salty water have completed cent percent. Since the repairing works have completed in time before the cultivation season, local farmers can be able to engage in cultivation of paddy and other crops in the catchment areas of more than 17,000 acres.
