More international aid reached Pakistan on Wednesday, as the military and volunteers urgently tried to evacuate many thousands stranded by widespread flooding driven by monsoons that have claimed more than 1,000 lives this summer. Cargo planes from China, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates landed at various airports in Pakistan.

Two Chinese planes arrived at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi carrying an aid shipment. Meanwhile, the Pakistani foreign minister met diplomats from more than 20 countries in Islamabad and briefed them on the flood situation in country.
