A Shanghai-based company announced that it is building a factory to package 720,000 12-inch chips annually. The line is expected to fill the gap in the local semiconductor industry.
Although the semiconductor industry in the city has upstream and downstream companies, there are few projects involving advanced chip packaging. Yibu Semiconductor says capacity will be about 60,000 chips every month.
This project will be launched in the Shanghai Robot Industrial Park located in Gucun, Baoshan. It is expected to be put into trial production in the third quarter of next year and achieve mass production in the fourth quarter.
The early research and development of this advanced packaging production line started two years ago. The company also plans to work with the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to set up a R&D center.
The center's research will be applied in the areas of artificial intelligence, smart driving, high-performance computing, and internet of everything.
