Conservation Of Aquatic Resources: 200,000 Fingerlings Released Into Ayeyawady River

The Department of Fisheries in Mandalay Region of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation planted 200,000 fingerlings into Ayeyawady River on Tuesday and it’s 12th time for fish releasing into the river.

There are four fishery camps of Mandalay Region Fisheries Department that are Nat Yay Kan, Kume, ThayatKone and Yay Nanttha and the fingerlings produced from these camps have been planted into the river.

Than Gyaung, Director/Head, Mandalay Region Fisheries Department said “We have already released 2-inch size fingerlings for 2 years. We have specially nurtured to get this size. The fingerlings produced from the department are released into Ayeyawady river. Concerning the conservation of fishery resources in the Ayeyawady River, we will conduct survey in cooperation with fishermen.”

The Fisheries Department in Mandalay region has planned to release 24 million fingerlings with 2 inches size into the river for 2022-2023 fiscal year and 5.32 million fingerlings have been planted into the river till now.

Than Gyaung, Director/Head, Mandalay Region Fisheries Department said “Our department has an objective to be sufficient aquatic food for the people and the sufficiency of food for the next generation by conserving fishery resources for long term sustainability. We are implementing this goal and we have a responsibility to conserve them. So, we’d like to urge the people to cooperate with us.”

Mandalay Region has 4 fishery camps and each camp releases 50,000 fingerlings into river. At the event, the types of fingerlings bred by the fishery camps are shown.
