Recently, some Chinese divers have taken pallets full of seagrass seedlings down into the deep sea and planted them on the sea bed for seagrass restoration in the waters near Dongchu Island, Shandong Province, in China.

The Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute (YSFRI), Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, has established onshore eelgrass seedling bases with a simulated seawater environment. They manually cultivate the collected seagrass seeds onshore, and then transplant the well-cultivated seagrasses onto the seabed after the seagrass grows to certain sizes.
