10th ASEAN Quiz (National Level): Promoting Friendly Relations Among AMS

Myanmar will host the 10th ASEAN Quiz (Regional Level) in December this year. For selecting the finalists for the regional level competition, the10th ASEAN Quiz (National Level) was held at the Myanmar Radio and Television in Yangon, Wednesday.

The event aimed to improve the knowledge of the cultural, political, economic and social information of the ASEAN countries to the new generation and to promote friendly relations and mutual understanding among ASEAN member states.

Ye Naing, Director-General, Myanmar Radio & Television said “The 5 winners of the competition will be trained by the English and IR departments of Yangon University. 3 of 5 will compete in the ASEAN Quiz (Regional Level) and we hope to get the good results and opportunity because of the children’s efforts and perseverance and Myanmar will perform as the host country.”

For the national level contest, students aged between 15 and 18 years from all over the country were invited to participate in the contest. Out of 34, 10 contestants were selected based on the results of the written and oral tests by the Panel of Judges on the 30th May. Of them, 5 finalists including 2 reserveswere selected for the regional level contest at the ceremony.

Zeyar, Director, Myanmar Radio & Television said “Now, we have already selected the top 5 students to participate in the ASEAN Quiz (Regional level) under the presenting the Myanmar. So, we have to train them to be profession in their respective subjects especially ASEAN 3 pillars, namely APSC, AEC and ASCC. And we would like to organize the events especially for the youths because the youths will be leader in the future.”

Ling Maung Pan, Director, Myanmar Radio & Television said “This is the very first time in-person competition after the COVID-19 pandemic. MRTV, under the Ministry of Information is very honor to host such a kind of national level competition in-person with the students. Also, for the opening song “Welcome to 10th ASEAN Quiz “, we arrange with the collaboration offers musician U Kyaw Thu Win from Music Department of MRTV and we composed welcoming song to honor for ASEAN Quiz.”

ASEAN Quiz has been alternatively organized by ASEAN member states once every two years since 2002.The host countries held the 1st to the 8th ASEAN Quiz (Regional Level) Competitions in-person but Singapore organized the 9th ASEAN Quiz (Regional Level) via online in 2020 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Pyae Sone Chan Thar, Top-1 Winner, B.E.H.S-1, Dagon said “My feeling is very great and I’m happy. Also I can’t believe that I am no.1 winner. It was huge difficult and it was not easy as you guys see. I would like to thank you to my teachers, supporting team from MRTV and other judges. To my juniors, come and join ASEAN Quiz, it is very excited and you can get a lot of general knowledge about ASEAN.”

Myanmar has decided the 10th ASEAN Quiz (Regional Level) in-person in Yangon at the end of December this year. As the host country, Myanmar hopes to achieve the best awards in the upcoming the10th ASEAN Quiz (Regional Level).
