Agricultural Development: Extended Cultivation Of Sunflower And Cotton

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Gyi visited Si Pin Agricultural Research Farm in Yamethin Township, Mandalay region on Tuesday to inspect production of Hsin Shwe Kyar-2 sunflower seeds, arrangements for the distribution of high quality oil crop sunflower strain and cooperation with farmers for sunflower seed distribution.

Later, the Deputy Minister met cotton growers at the 125-acre model field of pre-monsoon cotton seed production in Katin village of Yamethin township and discussed fulfilling the demand of cotton for local garment industry, the use of quality cotton strains and providing technical assistance for cultivation. The Deputy Minister provided Shwe Taung-10 cotton seeds to farmers with free of charge.

The Deputy Minister then looked into inflow of water into Katin lake in the  Aung Chan Tha village and durability of the lake.

In the afternoon of that day, the Deputy Minister and party proceeded to tropical area fruit research Center in Mae Aung Kan Farm of Yamethin Township and looked into test-production of high yield quality crops and new crops. He also discussed boosting hybridizing for the genetic development of tropical fruits and the needs for agricultural methods and identifying crop patterns.

The Deputy Minister then met sunflower growers in Tha Pyay Thar monastery in Tat Kone township and called for extended cultivation of oil crop sunflower, quality strains and systematic agriculture method.
