








Over 500,000 students have been enrolled for the 2022-2023 academic year as of 28th May, and the numbers of enrollment have been increased compared to the previous year. Shar Satt Maw has more.
The school enrollment week has been designated till the 1st of June, and arrangements are being made to accept students at Basic Education Schools across the nation.
In Yangon Region, the Basic Education Department under the Ministry of Education organized a school enrollment ceremony at No.4 Basic Education High School (Ahlone) on 29th May.
Chief Minister U Soe Thein urged for enrollment of all students of school age during his speech at the ceremony. He also stressed the vaccination plans for the students which will be carried out starting the 2nd of June.
The officials also provided teaching aids such as text books, exercise books and backpacks for the students and also supported face masks for the students and teachers.
Parent said "I am very glad that the school has reopened. There’s no problem with enrolment and if a student missed to attend school, it has a huge impact on children’s future and also for the parents. It’s a great plan to open the schools."
More than 87% student enrollment have been made during three-day period of the school enrollment week which start on the 26th of May.
Kyaw Moe Tun, Deputy Director General, Yangon Region Education Office said "The number of enrolled students in Yangon Region has resulted in a significant increase compared to previous year. The number of enrolled students at previous year is about 580,000 students and more than 510,000 students have been enrolled in just 3 days, accounting for the number of enrolled students this year is likely to be higher than previous year."
Ba Than, Education Officer (Yangon Southern District) said "We accepted the enrollment since 26th May and found that there’s an increase of enrollment compared to previous year. As the motto for the school enrolment week “Ensuring enrollment for all school going-aged children”, we have to try all the best to get education access for all school-aged children."
The government has made reform process in education system, and the professional skill courses about morality, professional skill, art and agriculture knowledge have been added to the new syllabus beside the school lessons.
Teacher, No.1, B.E.H.S (Dagon) said "All school-aged children should enroll and all should cooperate in school enrollment. The curriculum and teaching method are updated and the government also provides the teaching aids especially in science."
There are about 2,759 Basic Education Schools, 229 monastic education schools, and 219 registered private schools in Yangon Region, and a total of 3,207 schools from Yangon Region under the Basic Education Department will be opened this 2022-2023 academic year.
