A new international special train connecting China and Myanmar left the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing on Monday.
It also opened a new China-ASEAN trade corridor. The train, carrying 60 TEU containers of machinery, electronics and auto parts, will arrive in Mandalay, Myanmar, 15 days later, passing through Lingchan, southwest Yunnan Province.
The freight line is now 20 days shorter than regular routes and can reduce shipping costs by up to 20%. Products from the bush and surrounding areas will be able to use the new route to export to the Indian Ocean via Myanmar, reaching Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. In addition, the new route is expected to enhance connectivity with ASEAN and RCEP member states.
