Administration Meeting: Senior General Meets with Yangon Region Government

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing held a meeting with members of Yangon Region government and departmental personnel.

In the meeting at the City Hall of Yangon on Thursday, the Chief Minister of Yangon Region reported on social, economic, health and regional development tasks in the region, tax levying and spending, efforts for the development of the industrial sector, opening of COVID treatment centers, electricity and water supply, efforts for the production of domestic products.

Also, the Yangon City Mayor reported on the sanitation of the city and proper flow of water in drains and traffic rules enforcement. The Union ministers discussed industrial development measures, economic development for rural people, issuance of citizenship scrutiny cards (CSCs), efforts to avoid electricity outage, promotion of the national health sector and sports sector.

In his address, the Senior General said that the general election is important in a democracy. It is necessary to issue CSC and ensure the correctness of household registration and population for all the people to cast votes in the coming multiparty democracy general election.

Efforts must be made for the issuance of CSC to the local people in the Yangon Region. As Yangon City has sound foundations, officials need to further improve the city. The decline of the COVID-19 infection rate in Yangon Region is based on the cooperation of the people.

It is necessary to shape the city as a green and clean city by also reducing the non-product elements. Labour plans are being implemented in the regions and states to narrow the development gap. Solving the squatter problems can support the city beautifying tasks. Proper ways and means must be sought from solar power of renewable energy to generate electricity.

Relevant departments need to use the existing good foundations to develop the agriculture and livestock tasks. The cooperative system is to be implemented with the direct participation of the people, and successes in the cooperative sector can be seen in developed nations.

Only when the government receives the full amount of taxes, will it carry out the development tasks. Yangon City stood as the capital of the country from the post-independence era to 2006. Yangon Region is inhabited by more than 7.8 million of population, accounting for nearly 15 per cent of the country population.
