Arriving from the UK, a StenaLine ferry arrived at the Dutch ferry terminal of Hoek van Holland on Sunday evening hours after a travel ban from Britain was announced by the Dutch government.

The Netherlands announced restrictions on U.K. travel at least until the New Year in an attempt to make sure that a new strain of the COVID-19 virus in Britain does not reach its shores.

The ban came into effect on Sunday morning as the Dutch government said it was reacting to tougher measures imposed by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in and around London on Saturday. The StenaLine ferry embarked from Harwich in England and passengers and truck drivers were not subject to stronger or special border controls. In the Netherlands, the UK is already regarded as a so-called high-risk country. People coming from the UK to the Netherlands must be quarantined for ten days.
