After more new COVID-19 confirmed cases were found in Rakhine State, public awareness on COVID-19 disease has accelerated across the country to prevent the second wave breaking out of it.
In cooperation with Bus lines, Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA) conducted mask campaign to raise the public awareness on the COVID-19 disease at Hledan Junction in Yangon on 25th August.
Joint Secretary, YRTA, Hla Aung said “Today is the 2nd day of the campaign. We are trying to make such kind of campaign every week to raise awareness among the public. Although the social distancing is very important to prevent the disease, we can’t keep social distance on the daily routine buses as we expect. That’s why, all commuters have to wear masks as much as possible.”
At the same day, the mask campaigns are being conducted at 13 different places in Yangon including Hledan Junction, Thakhinmya Park, City Hall Bus Stop, 7/8 Junction in North Dagon, San Pya Market, Mingalardon and Thanlyin.
Chairman, Khit Thit Bayint Naung Public Co.,Ltd, Zaw Min said “We have cooperated with YRTA to conduct such campaign since the COVID-19 outbreak in Myanmar. As more new confirmed cases are still being found in the country especially in Rakhine State, today campaign aims to prevent the second wave of the disease.”
The officials from YRTA distributed the masks and pamphlets to the public including bus drivers and instructed the commuters on the buses to follow the rules issued by the ministry of Health and Sports.
Commuter, Yin Mon Aye said “Every time we take the bus, we have to wear masks and use hand sanitizer as it’s too crowded on the buses. I think, the people who don’t wear masks are more likely to get the disease infection. So, I would like to remind to the people not to forget wearing masks when they go outside.”
The mask campaign has been started since 23rd August, and about 10,000 masks will be distributed to the public during this campaign period, it’s learnt.
