Disability Inclusion: Training On Disability Inclusion For Commission Staffs Kicked Off

The two days Training on Disability Inclusion for Commission staffs kicks off in Yangon on Thursday. 

It was jointly organized by Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) and Myanmar Independent-Living Initiative (MILI) to improve the capacity and the understanding of the commission’s staffs on the rights of the disable people.

The topics ranging from current human rights issues of the disable people in the country, challenges, and the connection of disability and poverty issues will be discussed during the training, MILI said.

Executive Director, MILI, Yu Ya Thu said “Today, we will conduct training with the staff from the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission for two days. So within this training, we will talk about various topics ranging from Human rights issues, views on the disability, as well as how to deal with them while conducting development issues and highlighted on the connection of disability and poverty issues. Likewise, we would like to discuss on the involvement of more disable people in the country’s development plans and benefits for the country.” 

Moreover, Myanmar Independent-Living Initiative (MILI) is also working on the awareness raising activities for the disable people to be able to adopt the new normal especially access to accurate news about Covid- 19 and its related news in time. Currently, it’s not only working closely with Ministry of social Welfare, relief and resettlement, but also together with CSOs. A joint emergency response committee has also been formed together with other 30 disable organizations to work together during Covid-19 period. 

Chairman of MNHRC highlighted on the needs of all cooperative efforts for the improvement of disability rights in Myanmar and added their future plans together with international partners.

Chairman, MNHRC, Hla Myint said “Due to Covid-19, some of our activities have been halted. This training is one of the plans that we have to develop the capacity of our staffs. It’s really important to improve the understanding of the rights of disable people. We’ve already drawn operational strategic Five years plans to work on the development of the rights of the disable people. So this kind of training is one of them. I believe this two days training will help to understand more on the rights of the disable people, their challenges and how to work together for the further improvement.”

Members from the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) and related personnel all together 30 attendees attended the training.
