


MoU was signed between UNDP Myanmar and Ooredoo Myanmar to support the implementation of the Sustainable Enterprises and Agricultural Development (SEAD) project on Monday.
The project aims to establish an inclusive and sustainable rural development model in Myanmar’s Dry Zone in promoting climate resilient farming practices.
Oreedoo Myanmar, Head of Corporate Communications, Tint Naing Htut said “We are going to implement this project to help famers in dry zone region. It is also an extension bilateral agreement between Ooredoo and UNDP in 2019. At the time, we’ve plans to conduct Sustainable Development Goals, but we can say that this project is kind of implementation for SDGs. UNDP has already run pilot projects in dry zone for the development of agriculture. We are going to support and provide technology.”
This is two year partnership between Ooredoo Myanmar and UNDP. They have successfully organized two rounds of Hackathons in 2018 and 2019 and launched the SDG Incubation Hub in October 2019.
Resident Representative, a.i., UNDP, Gordon Johnson said “The main objective is to provide farmers with increase access, access to things like information, access to things like finance, access to things like market. So, there are able to plan better in their farming community and so that they are eventually able to be more productive in their production.”
130 target villages in Myingyan and Nyaung U townships are expected to directly benefit from the 15 months project. The project is going to start on January 2020, it’s learnt.
