With the lead of Yangon School for the Blind (Khawaechan), students, volunteers and tree lovers planted trees along Bago Yoma on Saturday.
Yangon School for the Blind (Khawaechan) has been actively planting trees across the country since 2014 with the aims to conserve green environment and to tackle air pollution and climate change issues.
Secretary General, Yangon School for the Blind (Khawaechan), Rev. Thein Lwin said “Most people plant teak and Ironwood trees. Those trees don’t provide food resources for animals. Our planted trees are great food resources for animals. We will continue to plant tree in the next years.”
The trees were planted with the method of plantation used in U.S.A that is scattering soil balls with seedling inside onto the ground. With the use of new method, tree planters could plant more trees in places where they can’t easily reach to and drones will be used in the future for moer effective planting.
Bago Yoma Explorer, Htay Lwin said “Bago Yoma used to have plenty of trees and it is very different now. The country will have green environment forever if tree planting rate covers that of tree cutting. I want everyone to begin planting trees with one tree by one person basis. We can plant more gradually.”
Environmental Conserver, Peter said “Tree planting is an important factor in tackling air pollution issue. Trees take carbnodioxide and produce oxygen for us. This is the first time planting trees with soil-fertilizer-seedling mixture balls.”
The team consist of 51 people planted 10 types of trees including mango, golden almond, drumstick, Sugar Apple, guava and Djenkol Bean.
