Waste Management: Greening and Cleaning environ

It needs to create a better environment through the implementation of waste management systems.

According to the research of the United Nations Environmental Program, there are about 11.2 billion tons of wastes in the world every year and at least 8 million tons of plastic wastes are being dumped into the seas and oceans.

In Myanmar, approximately 50% of total waste generation comes from the major cities such as Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw.

Regarding waste management system in Myanmar, there are technical constraints and needs in systematical waste management.

In case of illegal import of plastic wastes, electronic wastes and hazardous wastes into Myanmar,special care must be taken to prevent the access of waste collection into the country.

In January 2020, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental conservation enacted the National Waste Management Strategy and Master Plan for Myanmar(2018-2030) to manage waste properly for long-term.

This plan is currently being implemented at the state, district and township levels in collaboration with relevant departments and organizations.

In many parts of the world, the global prevention methods like the 3Rs (Reduce-Reuse-Recycle) concept are being used to prevent and control the environmental pollution and harm to human health caused by waste.

Practicing this concept brings benefits to the national, economic and industrial development and increases the national income. Waste management systems should be implemented to pass on a greening and cleaning environ to new generations.
