Electoral officials loaded up river boats in Manaus Saturday with voting machines and electoral material to distribute upriver to dozens of riverine communities on the Amazon River, delivering the vote to some of the most remote settlements in the country.
Thousands of voters live in small communities comprising just dozens of locals, all eager to participate in the country's national election, but physically unable to travel to voting centers in larger cities like Manaus.
Supreme Electoral Court (TSE), the government entity that runs elections in Brazil, loads up riverboats with the electronic voting machines, and the urns and takes them to where the voters are, giving them a chance to cast their ballot for their candidate when voting begins Sunday. The TSE says it will be able to provide locals with the vote during the elections, providing residents of the wild rainforest with a chance to cast their ballots for their preferred candidate.
